Nigerian skit maker and actor Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, has addressed speculation surrounding his relationship with Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele.
The speculation surfaced after Akindele was noticeably absent from the Lagos premiere of Kamo State’s debut cinema film, Star Lomo. Her absence generated conversations online, with some social media users questioning whether the two entertainers had fallen out.
Kamo State has now moved to dismiss those claims, saying there is no problem between him and the actress.
Kamo State Explains Funke Akindele’s Absence
Following the reactions online, Kamo State explained that Akindele was simply outside Nigeria when the premiere took place.
He said the actress had already spoken with him about missing the event and would still support the movie.
Kamo also asked the public not to speculate about their personal relationship, stressing that the focus should remain on Star Lomo.
His comments came after social media discussions intensified over Akindele’s absence from the premiere, particularly because of the close professional relationship the pair have developed over the years.
A Relationship Built Through Nollywood
Kamo State and Funke Akindele became more closely associated during the production and promotion of Everybody Loves Jenifa.
Akindele has also featured Kamo in projects including Aiyetoro Town Season 2, Behind The Scenes and Everybody Loves Jenifa. She has publicly supported some of his projects and has been seen with Kamo and his family at different occasions.
Because of that history, her absence from the Star Lomo premiere attracted more attention than it might otherwise have received.
However, Kamo’s latest comments provide his own explanation for the situation and reject the idea that the missed premiere should be interpreted as evidence of a disagreement.
Star Lomo Heads to Cinemas
While the online conversation has focused heavily on Akindele’s absence, Kamo State is now turning attention back to his biggest project yet.
Star Lomo is his debut cinema film and had its Lagos premiere on September 20. The event attracted several names from the Nigerian entertainment industry, including Odunlade Adekola, Lateef Adedimeji, Mo Bimpe, Iyabo Ojo and Kiekie.
Kamo also attracted attention with a specially designed jacket featuring images of late Nigerian entertainment icons, including Onyeka Onwenu, Ayinla Omowura, Mohbad and Fela Kuti.
The film is scheduled to begin showing in cinemas nationwide on September 25, 2026.
For Kamo State, the attention surrounding the premiere has therefore become part of a much bigger moment as he prepares to take his transition from skit-making into the cinema space.
With the rumours addressed, the focus now shifts back to Star Lomo and how audiences will receive Kamo State’s first major cinema project.
