Davido Says Soldiers Are Trying to Stop Him From Entering Osun

Afrobeats superstar Davido has alleged that soldiers are attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State as voters head to the polls for the 2026 governorship election.

David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, raised the alarm in a post on his verified X account early Saturday.

The singer said he had been informed that soldiers were trying to stop him from entering the state and insisted that he would not be deterred.

Davido Raises Alarm

Davido wrote that he had been “reliably informed” about the alleged attempt to prevent his entry into Osun.

The allegation quickly attracted attention because Davido has been publicly involved in the Osun election and has supported his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term.

The claim has generated reactions across social media, with Nigerians debating whether Davido was being specifically targeted or whether the situation was connected to the wider election-day movement restrictions.

Osun Under Movement Restriction

Davido’s allegation came against the backdrop of heightened security across Osun State.

The Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement from 12:00 midnight on August 14 until 6:00 p.m. on August 15, covering the election period.

The restriction is part of the security arrangements for the governorship election, with thousands of security personnel deployed across the state.

Police authorities have said the measures are intended to protect voters, election officials and electoral materials and to maintain peace during the poll.

Reaction to Davido’s Claim

The allegation has already triggered a political response.

Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad criticised Davido’s position, arguing that the movement restriction was a general election security measure rather than something directed specifically at the singer.

Ahmad said Davido’s right to freedom of movement does not mean that lawful election-day security restrictions can simply be ignored.

At the time of publication, there is no independent confirmation that soldiers were specifically ordered to prevent Davido from entering Osun. BusinessDay also noted that the allegation had not been independently confirmed.

Davido and the Osun Election

Davido is the nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke and has been actively supporting his uncle’s re-election campaign.

Adeleke is facing Bola Oyebamiji of the APC and other candidates in the governorship race.

Because of Davido’s enormous following, his comments about the election have attracted attention well beyond Osun State.

What Happens Next?

The key question now is whether Davido will eventually enter Osun State and whether security authorities will respond publicly to his allegation.

The situation is developing as voting takes place across the state.

NaijaGrove will continue monitoring the story and update this article if Davido, the military or other relevant authorities provide further information.
