Davido’s Oriadé Era: What His New Lagos Residency Says About His Next Chapter

Davido is bringing the Oriadé era back to Lagos in a way that goes beyond a traditional concert.

The Afrobeats superstar has announced “Oriadé: The Residency,” a three-night event at the National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, scheduled for December 17, 18 and 19, 2026. The shows will also mark 15 years of Davido’s career in music.

For an artist who has spent much of his career taking Nigerian music to audiences around the world, the decision to stage a multi-night production at home carries a different meaning.

Bringing Oriadé Home

The residency is expected to give Nigerian fans their first live experience of Davido’s latest album Oriadé, alongside songs from across his career and appearances from collaborators.

But Davido has made it clear that the idea is not simply about performing another set of concerts.

In an interview with CNN, the singer explained that returning home with a major production is important to him and to the wider culture. His recent African touring experience also helped renew his connection with audiences across the continent and contributed to the thinking behind the Lagos residency.

That makes the National Theatre an important part of the story.

Why the National Theatre Matters

The newly renovated National Theatre is one of Nigeria’s most recognisable cultural venues. By choosing the historic Lagos location for three consecutive nights, Davido is placing his latest musical chapter inside a venue associated with Nigerian arts and culture.

Davido has compared the venue to Madison Square Garden and said he wants the residency to demonstrate that African artists can stage major productions at home.

That message fits into a larger conversation about the growth of Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Afrobeats artists now regularly perform in major cities around the world, but large-scale events in Nigeria can also create opportunities for local production companies, hospitality businesses, vendors, creatives and other parts of the entertainment ecosystem.

A Different Kind of Homecoming

Davido has also pointed to Bad Bunny’s residency in Puerto Rico as an inspiration. According to the singer, those shows demonstrated how a major music event can become part of a wider cultural and tourism experience rather than existing only inside a concert venue.

Lagos already attracts a large international audience during the December festive period, commonly known as Detty December. Davido’s three-night residency now adds another major event to an increasingly crowded calendar.

For fans travelling into Lagos, the attraction is not only the performance itself. The residency places Davido, his music and the city of Lagos in the same conversation.

What Comes Next for Davido?

The Oriadé residency also arrives at an important point in Davido’s career.

After 15 years in the industry, he is no longer simply introducing himself to Nigerian audiences. He is using the experience he has gained on international stages to build a major production at home.

That could make the Lagos residency an important chapter in the Oriadé era — one where global success and Nigerian roots meet on the same stage.

Tickets are scheduled to go on sale on September 25, with early access available to members of Davido’s 30BG fanbase.

For three nights in December, all eyes will be on the National Theatre as Davido brings Oriadé home.
