The African music industry continues to expand beyond the traditional record-label system, and a new Lagos-based company is looking to give independent artists more control over how they release and manage their music.
ORB Entertainment has officially launched a digital music distribution platform designed to help independent African artists take their music to audiences around the world. The platform provides access to Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay, TikTok and more than 150 other digital music and social platforms.
Founded by Oluwaseun Ridwan Bamiro, ORB Entertainment says its platform was created to address some of the challenges independent musicians face, including the cost of professional distribution, limited infrastructure and the difficulty of managing releases across multiple platforms.
One of the company’s central features is its royalty model. ORB says artists retain 100 percent of the royalties reported to the platform, with no ORB commission deducted from their streaming earnings. The company also offers a free starting option alongside paid plans that provide additional release and artist-management tools.
For independent artists, the distribution process is designed to happen from a single platform. Musicians can upload their recordings, artwork and metadata before selecting the digital services where they want their music delivered.
Beyond basic distribution, ORB has built additional tools around the needs of emerging artists. Its platform includes streaming and revenue analytics, release links, promotional assets, royalty splits and artist-management features. Eligible users can also access tools related to Spotify for Artists, YouTube Content ID and cover-song licensing.
The company is also positioning itself around the African market. ORB says it supports artists across Nigeria and other African countries while allowing eligible musicians to use local payment and payout options. For Nigerian users, subscriptions can be paid in naira through Paystack, while royalty withdrawals can be directed to supported local bank accounts or other available payout methods.
The timing of the launch comes as African music continues to reach larger international audiences. While major artists often have access to established distribution companies, independent musicians frequently have to manage their careers with fewer resources.
That gap has created room for companies offering distribution, analytics, promotional tools and other services aimed specifically at artists building their careers independently.
ORB Entertainment’s launch therefore adds another player to Africa’s growing music-technology ecosystem. Rather than focusing only on getting songs onto streaming platforms, the company is presenting its service as a broader toolkit for artists who want to manage more of their music business themselves.
For Nigeria’s growing community of independent musicians, producers, managers and emerging labels, the platform represents another option for navigating the increasingly digital music industry.
